Talkin' With Eve

Eve,
is this how you felt after you took a bite out of the fruit?
is this how it was for you when your eyes were opened?
the same person, yet face to face two strangers-
the Eve before the bite, and the Eve after

Eve,
is this how you felt after you took a bite out of the fruit?
like you can never go back to the way things were before?
like you could never go back to the you that you once were?
even if you wanted?

Eve,
did you ever imagine that when you took that bite,
that things would never be the same?
that the purity, the perfect protection, the holy nourishment
you once were content with now no longer is enough?

we went from being goldfish content in our little aquarium,
the only perfect world ever known, taken care of-
to fending for ourselves in an ocean of sharks
an ocean sparkling deep with desire and decay
as one door shut, another world opened

So Eve,
I stand here, as you once did,
the same person yet face to face-
the me before the bite, and the me after
and I wonder where to go from here
as the angels wait to escort me out
I wonder if it was better to have known than
to never have
and
I wonder, from here, where do I go...
